๐Ÿ“ Description

Ross Island served as the British capital of the Andaman Islands from 1858 until 1941. It was once a self-sufficient colony with opulent British architecture including ballrooms, clubs, printing presses, churches, and more. In 1941, a massive earthquake struck, followed by a Japanese invasion during World War II, leading to the islandโ€™s abandonment.

Today, nature has beautifully reclaimed the ruins. Tree roots wrap around colonial walls, birds nest in the crevices of former offices, and the air carries a hauntingly peaceful silence. Visitors can walk freely among the remnants of this bygone era, imagining the life that once existed here.

The island also houses Japanese bunkers, a lighthouse viewpoint, and lush greenery, making it a great spot for a half-day trip. The light and sound show, held in the open amphitheater, artistically narrates the islandโ€™s transformation from a colonial stronghold to a national heritage site.
