π Description
Saddle Peak is a must-visit for nature lovers, trekkers, and wildlife enthusiasts exploring the northern reaches of Andaman. The journey begins from Kalipur Beach, where the trail gradually winds through thick rainforest, home to Andaman hill mynas, imperial pigeons, monitor lizards, and even wild boars.
The trek to the summit is approximately 8 to 10 kilometers one way and takes about 4β6 hours depending on pace and weather. The trail is mostly natural, shaded by dense canopies, with steep climbs, narrow paths, and wooden steps in places. Along the way, trekkers encounter freshwater streams, massive trees, and occasional clearings offering glimpses of the sea.
Once at the top, Saddle Peak rewards hikers with 360-degree views of the Andaman coastline, Kalipur Beach, Diglipur town, and even the twin islands of Ross and Smith in the distance. The serenity at the summit and the rich jungle experience make it one of the most fulfilling treks in the Andaman Islands.
The Saddle Peak National Park is also an eco-sensitive zone, so permits from the Forest Department are required, and itβs best explored with local guides for safety and ecological awareness.
